This is Mr. Hyman's 10th year teaching, his 8th year at P.S.101. Mr. Hyman is a permanently certified, tenured teacher and has taught 6th grade most of his career. In 2006, Mr. Hyman took over the technology program at P.S.101. The technology program uses technology and computers as a learning tool. We explore the web, get to know programs like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, and Power Point, and use technology for test prep purposes (Scantron Performance Series). In addition, the program combines traditional teaching with the technology of today by using SMART Boards. Before teaching, Mr. Hyman worked in television and in baseball. From 1996 to early 1997, Mr. Hyman worked as a researcher for the Geraldo Rivera Talk Show in NYC. From March 1997 until October of 2001 Mr. Hyman was a videographer/scout for the New York Mets Baseball Club. For several years, Mr. Hyman worked as a videographer/scout and as a teacher at the same time until he decided to leave baseball after the 2001 season and turn his attention to teaching full time. Mr. Hyman graduated from Hofstra University with his B.A. Degree in 1996 and with his Masters Degree in elementary education in 1999. Currently, Mr. Hyman teaches technology at PS101 and published the student yearbook from 2001 to 2007. He is also the Director of the Hofstra University Summer Baseball Camp. In addition to all of that, he is in the process of writing a book about his 5 years as a videographer/scout for the Mets.
AHyman2@schools.nyc.gov My pledge to you: This year has the possibility of being one of the best years of your life. If you are willing to listen to me and do as I ask, we can make amazing things happen. You have got to believe me, and you have got to trust me. I am going to give all I’ve got and work my hardest to make sure you get the best education possible and that you succeed.
I don’t care what kind of grades you have had in the past. I don’t care what kind of trouble you have been in before. I don’t care about test scores (good or bad) that you got last year or two years ago. I don’t care what kind of reputation you’ve had. This is a new year, and we are going to have a brand new start, and I assure you, if you are willing to follow the rules and procedures that I have set for you, as well as try your very best at everything that you do, this year you will all be stars. Only you have the power to make remarkable things happen and I am confident that you will. I believe it is possible. Good luck and lets have a spectacular year! - Mr. Hyman |
